Dynamic-Link Library, or DLL, files are small programs that can be used by the Windows operating system or third-party software. DLL programming language is borrowed by either operating system or an application whenever they need that specific code to execute a specific function. This eliminates the necessity to include every single piece of programming in an application, which reduces its overall size on the hard drive. Kernel32.dll, for example, is used by the Windows operating system for memory management. However, if a DLL is missing then the application that needs it won't run.
